Symptoms typically begin 6 to 12 hours after the last dose, peak around days two and three, and largely resolve within five to seven days. What kratom withdrawal feels like
Restless legs
An almost unbearable need to move the legs, worst at night. One of the most commonly reported symptoms and one of the least tolerated.
Insomnia
Frequently the longest-lasting symptom, often continuing one to two weeks past the physical phase.
Muscle aches
Deep aching through the limbs and back, familiar to anyone who has been through opioid withdrawal.
Autonomic
Runny nose, watering eyes, sweating, chills, goosebumps. Often mistaken for flu.
Mood
Irritability, anxiety, low mood and agitation, often disproportionate and hard on people around you.
Gastrointestinal
Nausea, cramping and diarrhea, most pronounced through days two and three.
Why it is worse than it used to be
Extracts changed the picture
Kratom historically meant dried leaf powder. Much of what is now sold is not that. Concentrated extracts, liquid shots and products marketed on their 7-hydroxymitragynine content are considerably more potent.
The practical result is that dependence develops faster, at lower apparent quantities, and withdrawal is generally reported as harder than from traditional powder. Someone taking two shots a day may be more dependent than someone taking a much larger volume of leaf.

You are not imagining it
A great many people going through kratom withdrawal have been told — by friends, forums, sometimes clinicians — that it is not real, or that it is only in their head because kratom is legal.
Mitragynine is a partial opioid agonist. Withdrawal from it is opioid withdrawal, and the pattern is recognizable to anyone who treats it. Being sold at a counter changes the regulation, not the pharmacology.
